2025 Scholar Athlete Award - University Club of Chicago
Each year, the University Club of Chicago presents a Junior Scholarship Award to two MetroSquash students who are about to embark on their college journeys. Funds raised from this event will be used to award scholarships for college-bound seniors to help with tuition, books, and supplies.
2025 Scholarship Recipients
Iyanu J. is an Evanston Township High School senior and the top-ranked squash player from MetroSquash Evanston. A dedicated student-athlete, he balances squash, soccer, and MetroSquash programming with remarkable commitment—maintaining 100% school attendance and earning a 3.59 GPA while taking multiple AP courses. Iyanu’s leadership shines through his mentorship of younger players and over 25 hours of volunteer coaching with 6th and 7th graders. He’s built strong relationships with staff and consistently applies feedback to grow both on and off the court. This scholarship will directly support his dream of a full college experience!
Yanelise S., a senior at Beacon Academy and a standout participant at MetroSquash Evanston, exemplifies what it means to be a scholar-athlete. With a rigorous academic schedule and a 3.7 GPA, she consistently excels in the classroom while competing on the squash court and mentoring younger players. Last year, she earned the MetroSquash Dedication Award for completing over 150 programming hours, all while balancing cross-country, and theater tech. Her passion for forensic science has led to her participation in competitive academic programs and a current internship with the Evanston Police Department’s forensics unit.
